Procrastination

Jesus said to the man who wished to bury his father before following Him: "Let the dead bury their own dead..." (Lk. 9:60). "How brash and insensitive of Jesus!" perhaps he thought, "I love my family!" But the Lord's reasoning was superior: "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God" (Lk. 9:62).

Jesus was looking for faithful farmers. He continues to. He wants farmers who are focused. Those whose attention is drawn away by what's behind and around them will only veer off course and make a mess of the field. Focus is a product of commitment. Jesus knew that if the man weren't willing to immediately walk with his God, his commitment was lacking. Even a funeral wasn't good enough reason to put the Lord on hold--nothing is. "Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near" (Is. 55:6). The Lord was near, but the man was seeking other things.

Are you seeking? Please don't delay like the man already mentioned. The Lord has promised many things, but another day to repent is not one of them.

"Behold, now is the accepted time: behold, now is the day of salvation" (2 Cor. 6:2).
